Senior Spotlights: Editor-in-Chief Michael Wemyss

Known around campus as “Newspaper Boy,” senior Michael Wemyss is leaving Herndon High School a better place. As a junior he marched into our first journalism class with a vision to raise The Stinger from the ashes, and he did just that.

Michael spent hours learning our design software and then teaching it to the staff. He was always meeting administrators and teachers, and interviewing just about anyone who spent time at or near the school. This included not only students, but construction workers, law enforcement officials, club sponsors, coaches, and custodians. He attended plays and concerts and games and wrote about them. The kid never quit. He always had that next article in mind. His easy smile and wit made him the perfect interviewer.

His passion even took him off campus to seek advertisers and stories in the community. Because of his dedication and enthusiasm, Herndon High has a successful newspaper program that will continue to grow where he planted it. Newspaper Boy’s next issue will include studying history at NOVA next year. (Couldn’t leave without a pun) We will miss you, Michael!
