Senior Spotlights: Saowbia Rahman, News Editor

Updated: May 29, 2020

The calm voice of reason in the newsroom, Saowbia will leave a big void for our staff that will be difficult to fill. She was an expert at finding relevant news articles and issues affecting our students. She used her writing skills to readily write news and opinions articles on hot topics. She has been with us from the beginning, and says her favorite part of being on staff was playing a role in bringing The Stinger back to the school. “Journalism didn’t feel like a normal academic class to me. I genuinely cared about putting out stories for the rest of the school to read.”

She learned a lot about writing and editing but especially learned social skills while conducting interviews. As a writer, she has become particularly fond of commas, for their versatility. She will miss the comfort zone of high school, but is excited for her next step, which is heading to George Mason University where she will study Psychology, with plans to become a therapist or mental health counselor. No doubt her new classmates and professors will learn to consult her for the most practical advice, delivered in her quiet, confident voice. Our staff won’t be the same without you, Saowbia!
