Local Fall Events

By Allison Watling

It's that time of the year! Fall season! A time where the cool breeze is blowing through the air, and you can hear the crunch of leaves with every footstep. Fall also invites the Halloween holiday, which makes it fun to have many spooky-themed events in the area.

Usually, there are events that celebrate the season, like haunted trails or cornfields, hay rides, and haunted houses. Due to Covid-19, some of these events that were open in the previous years had to close down. Most of the attractions that involved close contact, like the haunted houses and trails had to close down. But, in this 2020 fall season, there is still room for fun. Here are some events that are still going on in the area.

One popular place for these fall events is Cox Farms. Cox Farms offered many events in the past years, including a fall festival and a fields of fear event. The fields of fear event was a scary event that took place at night. It included a haunted hayride, a forest, and a cornfield. Unfortunately, the event was closed for the 2020 season.

But Cox Farms is still offering the fall festival. The festival has changed, instead of a regular hayride there is now a self driven hay ride and a drive through market. This allows people to stay safe inside their cars during this season. The fall festival closes on November 2nd. So, if you’re feeling like it, take a drive to Cox Farms and enjoy the fall vibes and car rides. Cox farms is Located in Centerville, VA. Get your tickets here: Fall Festival

If you’re into theatre, you'll love this next attraction. The Mclean Community center is offering a “Drive Thru Drama” which is a live theatre event. In the comfort of your car, you would be able to view many actors performing short scenes that form into one cohesive story. This aspect of theatre is safe for this season, following the social distancing guidelines and bringing people together at the same time.

The theatre performance is Halloween themed and it's a perfect time to watch it with your family or friends. The event closes on November 1st. The drive in theater is located in Mclean, VA. Get your tickets here: OvationTix

Another Halloween event is a drive up movie night, offering fun to all ages. This event consists of a double feature: “Scooby Doo! Stage Fright” and “Beetlejuice”. Have a fun time, relax in your car and watch a few movies with your friends or family. This event also offers a “Car Trick or Treating” which allows people to be safe and get candy. You have opportunities to earn other prizes if you dress up in a costume, or you dress up your car in a costume!

This event’s proceeds go to working towards cures for the 3.1 million Americans fighting IBD. The event is one night only on October 30th. The theatre is located in Tysons, VA. Get your tickets here: Halloween Drive-up Movie Night benefiting the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation

So, go out and enjoy these seasonal events, it will be fun and safe. It can also bring people together, so get all your friends together and make a night out of it!
