Herndon High School just hosted their 25th annual Stomp Fest. Step teams from all over the DMV came to Herndon High to compete in the competition for a first place prize of $750 and a second place prize of $250. Every team performed different routines which included props, voice overs, colored lights or music. All teams showed off their hard work through their coordinated stepping that could be heard all throughout the auditorium. Step is a sport famous for putting on intimidating faces and having loud, booming voices on stage.
Since the Herndon Step Team was hosting the competition, they were unable to compete. This, however, did not stop them from putting on a show stopping performance. Last season, the Herndon Step Team didn’t have a coach. The captains collaborated to make their own routines without any oversight from a coach. This year they were fortunate to get a coach. One of the team captains, Senior Olivia Taylor, says, “We were always performers even last year when we didn’t have a coach stompfest was amazing, but having one this year was a lot less stressful in some aspects it was nice having someone tell you that they believe in you and that u can do it no matter how tired you are.” They practiced five days a week for two weeks, three hours a day leading up to the performance. Their hard work definitely paid off in the end through their mesmerizing show that had the audience clapping and cheering.
The seniors on the Herndon team were recognized as they walked across the stage with their family, holding flowers. To tie together their last season, the seniors performed a special, high energy dance that made everyone cheer and smile.
All in all, Stomp Fest was a success with loads of talented high schoolers participating in this annual event. The Herndon Step Team fiercely displayed their talent and showed just how powerful step really is.
