Recently, virtual auditions were held for the All Virginia Band and Orchestra. The All Virginia event is a mixture of workshops with guest conductors and composers. The concert will be premiered live on YouTube in early May, and rehearsals will be on the 22nd from 5:30-8:30 p.m., the 23rd from 5:30-8:30 p.m., and on Saturday from 8 a.m.- 8 p.m. To audition these students, they had to be ranked at the very top of their selections across Northern Virginia, which is already a great accomplishment. Herndon High has quite a few students that made it to the state level ensemble!
Congratulations to:
Sophomore Liz Morad, the first percussionist in all of Virginia!
Senior John Czekanski, 2nd viola
Senior Will Logan, 16th clarinet
Senior Jack Cupernull, 5th euphonium
Senior Danny Hale, 10th percussion
Ms. Jacoby, the band director, thinks that this experience will do a lot for the band and orchestra program at Herndon High. “This year’s virtual event comes with some really special opportunities because the students get to work with multiple, world renowned musicians instead of just a single guest clinician. This year they get to rehearse with music celebrities who we would never normally have access to. Getting to work with the top conductors and the composers who wrote the music they’re recording, and learn from professional sound editors is a once-in-a-lifetime event.”
