For people who somehow have no idea what it is, Wordle is a word game where you are given six tries to guess a random word, with clues given along the way as to which letters are correct. There is a new Wordle every day, and the game allows you to track a streak and keep statistics.
Wordle first came out in October of 2021, however, it did not get popular until around January of this year. These days, it is not uncommon to see people talking about whether or not they did the Wordle, or how many tries they got it in. In a Herndon High poll, 61% of those who participated do the Wordle 6-7 days per week, with almost 75% saying they enjoy it. Many also play other variations of the game daily. “It has become a family bonding game in my house!” one student says.
On top of the popularity of the original Wordle, new versions of the game have been created including geography games like Globle and Worldle where you guess a country based on its distance from other countries or an outline of its borders. Heardle is also a popular one, where players listen to snippets of a popular song and try to guess its title. There are also celebrity wordles, Disney wordles, sports wordles, and even a Herndon Wordle, which asks for words related to Herndon High. You can also challenge yourself with the Dordle, Quardle, Octordle and Sedecordle, where you play multiple games at once. You can also make your own Wordles and send them to your friends! With most of these games, you can only play one per day, however, many have archives where you can go back and play the games from days you missed.
Whether you play every day, or just once a week, wordle is an entertaining game that many enjoy. “It’s so fun!!!”
