FCPS’s free breakfast and lunch programs have been extended to December 31st, continuing to provide students access to food for the foreseeable future of the COVID-19 lockdown.
Having begun in early September, FCPS Grab-and-Go service hours have been extended from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with the exception of holidays. Since schools closed last March, FCPS has already distributed over 2.3 million Grab-and-Go meals, providing nutritious foods for both breakfast and lunch, even over the Summer. “We greatly appreciate this decision by the USDA and Virginia Department of Education that support our efforts to provide meals to as many students as possible,” said FCPS Superintendent Scott Brabrand in a statement, “Extending the summer program authority will also ensure that parents have the security of knowing their children will be fed.”
Though schools are not open for in-person learning, continuous access to free meals serves to connect students back to the school community, and ensures the health and safety of the student body.
