Update on First Quarter

By Samantha Ruenzi

Online school has been an extreme adjustment for all of us, students, teachers, you name it. And as the first quarter comes to end, grades have been tough to maintain and the environment that we are in contributes to our lack of motivation. This can make it challenging to get our homework done, studying for important tests, and so on. These factors can result in a sufficient decrease in our grades. However, some students say that online school has been fairly easy and enjoy the aspects of being at home.

Several say that their grades aren’t at their expected standards, and that they saw a small decrease in their grades compared to last year. The reason for most students is the result in virtual learning and contacting teachers for help isn’t always effective. Freshman Sophia Leon said, “I can’t really get the same help for a question as if it were in person. The workload is also a bit stressful.” Due to these circumstances, having a social network is more important than we think and can make a sufficient difference in our grades.

Staring at a screen for 7+ hours a day can be straining and can cause a lack of motivation and laziness. However, some students have a plan on being more motivated and focused throughout the day. Leon said, “I am planning on completely getting ready for the morning so I pay attention in school better, and have more energy to do things. I think that keeping a good lifestyle can lead to better grades.” If you are struggling in school due to the impact of virtual learning, these tips can help you achieve better attention habits and possibly even better grades.
