This past week was an important week for Taylor Swift lovers. Not only has the re-recording of popular 2012 album Red been released, but the 10 minute version of one of her most famous songs, All Too Well, is also out. Re-recording albums is a rare occurrence in the music industry, so Swift has done what only a few artists have done before.
Because of ownership issues with her last contract at Big Machine Records, Swift has decided to re-record the albums she doesn’t have full ownership of, so that listeners can enjoy her music and she can still receive profits. She began with one of her most famous albums, Fearless, which came out in 2008, re-released in April of this year.
Red is her second re-recording, also paired with a short film directed by Swift herself, telling the story behind one of the most popular songs in the album, All Too Well. It is suspected by fans that this song is about Swift’s relationship (when she was 20) with actor then-29-year-old Jake Gyllenhaal. This seems to be confirmed by the casting of the film, which stars Dylan O'Brien and much younger Sadie Sink. This choice may have been meant to represent the age gap between Swift and Gyllenhaal. This short film is very unique, as it switches from interactions between characters to music video style scenes. The film is very well executed, and the character development as well as the acting was exceptional, despite the film only being fifteen minutes long.
Overall, the film was more than satisfactory for all Taylor Swift fans. The re-recording of Red, as well as the short film and lengthened version of All Too Well may be one of the most exciting releases for Taylor Swift fans ever!
