Look no further for your next novel! “A School for Unusual Girls” by Kathleen Baldwin is a great and fast-paced read. This historical fiction novel revolves around protagonist Georgiana Fitzwilliam, a brilliant 16-year-old chemist living in England during the post-Napoleonic era. However, not everyone appreciates Georgiana’s scientific aspirations, especially not her family.
The story begins with Georgiana touring a finishing school that has a reputation for using cruel punishments to turn its “unusual” students into marriageable young ladies. But soon, through subtle hints and mysterious secrets kept by her new friends, Georgiana discovers the school's true intentions, and the incredible journey that follows will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end!
This novel is also historically thought-provoking, showing how the world would have changed had Napoleon come back to power after being banished to Elba. This fast-paced book would be a great read for both students and teachers alike.
Unfortunately, this book is not currently available at our Herndon High School Library. Luckily for us however, this book is available at the Herndon Fortnightly Library. And if you enjoy this one, you can also read the next four books in this thrilling series, three of which are already available!
