Mrs. Velicu Organizes Donation Project for Ukraine Aid

By Jordan Smith, Staff Writer

HHS Biology teacher Mrs. Velicu has provided an outlet for students to donate medical supplies to Ukraine, amidst its deadly conflict with Russia. Velicu is a passionate advocate for aid to Ukraine, and appreciates any and all donations.

Originally from Romania, which borders Ukraine, Velicu has been keeping a close eye on the crisis, which hits especially close to home. “More than three million people have now fled Ukraine, and more than half are children. Children on the move are more at risk of hunger and illness,” she explained. Despite being on the other side of the world, there is still so much each of us can do to help Ukrainian refugees and others who might be affected by this war. Donations can be brought to K-217, the science department, or the main office. Velicu has heavily encouraged items such as bandages, band-aids, antistatic wipes, adhesive tape, absorbent compress dressing, gauze pads, rolled gauze, gloves, and masks. Any help is greatly appreciated, even the smallest donation can save a life.

Though there is end to the Russia-Ukraine conflict in the foreseeable future, we do know that countless people will continue to be displaced and have their lives put at risk. Velicu’s donation project has opened the doors for HHS to do what it can to help people in need, even from a world away.
