K-pop group LOONA is in great risk of disbanding. LOONAs label, Blockberry Creative Entertainment, has been getting a considerable amount of backlash recently for how they’ve been treating their idol group LOONA. BCE (Blockberry Creative Entertainment) and Chuu, one of the main members of LOONA, have been in an ongoing dispute over unfair treatment she received under the label.
Chuu has been known to be overworked throughout her career, but Chuu revealed that she was not even being paid for any of her work in 2021. She wasn’t the only one to say this either; another member, Yeojin, also said that she hasn’t been paid since the groups debut, in 2016. The K-pop industry has been known to be hard on idols, but it's taken to another level with LOONA. Chuu said that she had so little money in 2021 that she couldn’t afford to buy food causing her to take multiple visits to the ER.
LOONAs first world tour was directly following their appearance in the TV show, Queendom two which gave them little time to rest. Haseul had a shoulder injury from Queendom two but had to continue with the tour, Chuu missed the entire tour, Yeojin collapsed mid performance, and Choerry, Haseul, and Yves all had to skip some if not all of the European leg of the tour. Kim Lip, Jinsoul, and Yeojin also missed meet and greets due to health issues. The tour dates were very close together with almost no time to rest and Orbits (LOONAs fans) noticed how almost all the girls were struggling to get through the concerts. Even so, BCE did not make much public acknowledgement about any of this.
As of March 2022 Chuu has filed a lawsuit against BCE for the mistreatment she’s been receiving. Since then, Chuu has been excluded from several of the groups activities including their new comeback with their song “Luminous”, as well as their new app; SuperStar LOONA. There is very slow progress with the lawsuit as no one knows the future of Chuu’s career and BCE has not been making claims regarding the mistreatment of LOONA.
