Ever since May 2018, when “Jelena” broke up for good, there have been many tensions regarding their relationship. Justin ended up tying the knot with Hailey Bieber later that year, and Gomez herself had been in the dating game too. Both seemed to be rather uninvolved with each other's lives, up until these past few weeks.
Recently, Gomez made a post on Instagram, where she was shown with friends enjoying herself on vacation. This post attracted a large sum of hate, body shaming Gomez. Hailey Bieber soon after posted a TikTok mouthing, “I’m not saying she deserved it, but God’s timing is always right.” This TikTok blew up a storm and many fans came to Gomez's defense. The TikTok seemed distasteful and it was soon deleted, though it didn’t stop there. Fans have begun diving into the world of Hailey Bieber and have noticed some large similarities between her and Gomez. Bieber has been dubbed a “Copycat,” and Selena fans are making sure she knows of this title.
Fans have gone online sharing a plethora of examples of Bieber copying Gomez. Many videos have been made online showing Bieber wearing outfits and jewelry previously worn by Gomez, though there have been more drastic things, such as Bieber copying Gomez’s cooking show and her iconic lowercase “g” tattoo behind her ear. Fans have even gone in depth showing how similar the two celebrities cooking shows were when played side by side, both having similar layouts and guest appearances. Fans have famously said that they don’t understand why Bieber copies Gomez so much considering she’ll never live up to Gomez’s image.
To add on, other celebrities have now been tossed into the drama, including members of the Kar/Jenner clan. After Gomez posted a TikTok showing her fans a silly mistake she made with her eyebrows, Hailey Bieber and Kylie Jenner saw the video and proceeded to mock Selena online attempting to be subtle. Selena's fans, however, knew instantly what they were doing and made sure to defend Selena from her bullies. Bieber has tried to copy and mock Selena repeatedly, but fans and even paparazzi are over it, showing solidarity for Selena by ignoring and unfollowing Bieber. Today Bieber has lost about a million followers, while Gomez has just grown her platform.
