Adjusting to Our New Normal: FCPS’ New Policies

In a time of anxiety and turmoil, high school students have been particularly stressed on how to deal with the major changes that come with distance learning. Despite the fact that all FCPS highschoolers have laptops, learning electronically from home will be quite the adjustment. From video chats to online AP exams, the constant influx of information can be overwhelming for both parents and students.

FCPS’ implementation of distance learning is meant to encourage students to continue their studies online. Third-quarter has also been extended to April 24 and any work during the fourth quarter will not be graded. Despite the confusion the initial announcement caused, FCPS has ensured that they are trying their best to encourage learning during these troubling times while taking into consideration the adjustment period.

The new schedule began on April 14 and is conducted through synchronous instruction. Teaching takes place through Blackboard Collaborate in live video chats on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The rest of the days will be dedicated to office hours for teachers and independent study. FCPS’ new policies hope to promote learning during this difficult time.
