The NFL is committed to having all 32 teams play a total of 16 games, in their normal 17-week regular season. But just like most of us during this time, they are having to deal with obstacles like never before. Positive tests, false positives, shutdown facilities, virtual practices, and many more.
A Monday night game at 5 PM? Yep, the NFL has had two games scheduled for that time, but the first one, Broncos-Patriots during Week 5, had to be postponed after more players tested positive. The game was eventually moved to Sunday. The league was supposed to have Thursday Night Football in Week 6, but after the Titans-Bills game was moved to Tuesday, (yep, Tuesday Night Football). The Chiefs-Bills game on Thursday was moved to Monday at 5 PM, adding a Monday Night doubleheader for the third time this season. In Week 5, the league had to shuffle many upcoming games around, which at this point, is hard to keep track of!
The 2021 Pro Bowl was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns. The NFL announced, “The league will reimagine the 2021 Pro Bowl, instead we will create a variety of engaging activities to replace the Pro Bowl this season.” The cancellation of the Pro Bowl opened up speculation that the league will add an 18th week, but the league later announced, “Our intent is to play an entire regular season and postseason, culminating the Super Bowl.” Shuffling games is something we will see for the rest of the season, so the NFL has to think about adding an 18th week, right? As of now, there isn’t an 18th week scheduled. But as we know, nothing is certain, especially during a pandemic.
