With the winter sports season nearing its end, many of our Hornet athletes competed at the district level. Here are some updates from this past week/weekend.
The Hornet Track and Field team competed in the Liberty District “Polar Bear” meet. Senior Lainey Bradley finished in 1st place, earning her place as the Liberty District Champion for the Girls Shot Put. Junior Gillian Bushée also placed first in the 3200 meter run. Junior Cameron Elliot was the runner up in the Boys 500 meter dash, and Junior Denzel Webb placed 3rd in the 1000 meter run. Junior Jasmine Robinson placed 3rd in the Girls Shot Put, and Senior Alec McGowan placed 3rd in the Boys Triple Jump. Finally, Senior Daniel Robles placed 3rd in High Jump and 4th in the Long Jump and Triple Jump. Be sure to support those who qualified for regionals at Chantilly High School on February 9th, 10th, and 12th.
For Boys Wrestling, last Friday Senior Zach Hanna (132 lbs) and Sophomore Brady Calderwood (126 lbs), were both Liberty District Champions. Adam Hanna and Kinan Estwani both placed 2nd, with Tanner Robertson and Diego Webb both placing 3rd. Brendan Neely placed 4th, and the wrestling team will continue to compete in the Northern Region Championships at Centreville High School on Thursday.
The Hornet Dance team came in 1st place in Jazz and 2nd place in Pom while competing at the Wolverine Dance Invitational at North Stafford High School. At the UDA Competition at Woodbridge High School, the team was also awarded 1st place in Jazz, 1st place in Pom, and won for best choreography. The Dance Team is led by Captain Rachel Silverman, and Co-Captains Chloe Barr, Abby Snowden, and London Tuma.
For the Hornet Gymnastics team, Caitlyn Allain placed 5th in vault with a score of 8.925, qualifying for regionals on floor with a score of 9.075. The team was led by Seniors Claire Jones and Nicole Ennis.
The Boys Varsity Basketball team will have their senior night on Thursday, hosting McLean.
The Girls Varsity Basketball team hosted their senior night on Tuesday, beating Langley 45-33.
