For many years, Herndon High School has been rivals with South Lakes High School. Each year, students, families, and staff all look forward to the rivalry football game between the Herndon Hornets and the South Lakes Seahawks. Most of the time, a lot of students show up and it’s a pretty big event. But this year, things looked a little different in the crowd of the rivalry game.
Instead of hundreds of students showing up, there were just around fifteen in attendance. The rest of the spectators were parents and other crowd watchers, and they were all social distancing. All of them had masks on, and were enjoying the game!
Speaking of the game, the Hornets looked great playing on the field! Even in a pandemic, each and every one of these players worked hard to play together as a team. The hornets had many chances to score, and even though they didn't put any points on the scoreboard, they still pulled off numerous great plays and runs. The end score was 0-40, South Lakes.
Another great sight to see was the cheerleading team on the sidelines, cheering on our Hornets when we needed them the most! Though the crowd was smaller than normal because of safety guidelines, our cheer team was bringing a spectacular effort to get that enthusiasm running through the crowd and onto the field!
The next home game is tomorrow, Friday, March 19th at 7:00 pm. If you’re free, get a chance to check the Hornets out and cheer them on! And if you do go, remember to wear a mask!
