Food for Neighbors Help Feeds Students

COVID-19 is on the spread, and with schools forced to close, Fairfax County made it their number one priority in setting up lunch stands at various schools in the county, to make sure students are fed and well-nourished with the established program Food for Neighbors.

Food for Neighbors is a non-profit organization where community volunteers collect food from homes that donated food as well as local businesses, such as the Great Harvest Bread Company, who donates a number of loaves each week.

Every Thursday, families can go to a local school and pick up a family bag that will last them for a week. The location of the school varies each week, but the notifications are prompt, and the school is always nearby. To keep up with the schedule you can follow the link below this article.

Challenges do rise with this program however. With households struggling to keep food items for themselves, and grocery stores meeting supply-in-demand expectations it can be tough to collect food on a weekly basis. On the Food for Neighbors web page there is a link that can be accessed to donate money, for purchasing items in this time of need.

Food for Neighbors has been an inspirational program for years by lending out a hand to our community, and now they have a task that seems to drag on into the foreseeable future and by doing your part can really help them out, by helping those who are dreadfully affected by this outbreak.
