The Washington Football Team pulled off the upset of the season, defeating the 11-0 Pittsburgh Steelers 23-17. Nobody expected this; every NFL analyst picked the Steelers to win. In the beginning of the game, it seemed the game was going into the win column for Pittsburgh, up 14-0 early. Washington put up points in the final seconds of the first half, making it 14-3. With momentum on the Steelers side, Washington drove down the field to start the third quarter, 82 yards, to make it 14-10 after a Peyton Barber one yard touchdown. Pittsburgh scored three more points a couple drives later to make it 17-10. Washington’s defense has been known for having strong second halves. Washington tied the game at 17 after a Logan Thomas 15 yard touchdown catch. The defense was playing strong, and they continued it with a fourth down stop the following drive. Tied at 17, Washington was in prime territory to take the lead in the fourth quarter. They did exactly that, with a 45 yard Dustin Hopkins field goal. Pittsburgh needed points, with 2:07 remaining in the fourth, they had a good amount of time. But on first down, a tipped Montez Sweat pass landed in the hands of Jon Bostic for a miraculous interception. With the ball on the Steelers 25, Washington took advantage, draining the clock, and putting up a field goal, making it 23-17 with 0:17 left. In an almost impossible situation, Pittsburgh could not pull it off. Washington wins, 23-17 on Monday evening football. A signature win for Ron Rivera’s Washington Football Team, handing Pittsburgh their first loss in a comeback win, in the most dramatic way possible. “What a win for Washington,” said Fox’s Kevin Burkhardt. With this win, Washington moves to 5-7, but 2nd place in the NFC East because of the 5-7 Giants having the tie-breaker. Washington has all of the momentum, heading to Arizona to take on the 5-7 San Francisco 49ers in week 14. Washington lost in Arizona to the Cardinals in week 2, now heading back to take on San Francisco. The 49ers were prohibited by Santa Clara county to play at Levi Stadium, resulting in the temporary relocation.
