People may still be in quarantine, but a new hope has emerged as the potential start of the MLB (Major League Baseball) season could be growing closer. As sports fans remain eager to see sports again, some leagues have discussed their reopening plans. Some sports have already started back up like the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) and the KBO (Korean Baseball Organization), and they are paving the way for the return of other sports leagues like the MLB.
On May 11, the MLB proposed a possible season plan to the MLB Players Association that team owners approved. The plan includes playing an 82 game season, having a designated hitter in each league, and allowing teams to play in their home stadiums if local and state governments approve. The season would have spring training in June and the season would start in early July. If the players accept the proposal, then baseball could be back sooner rather than later.
While some players like Washington Nationals closer Sean Doolittle and Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Blake Snell do not feel as good about the proposal because of health and money reasons, the MLB will try to negotiate a way in which the majority of the players agree to play the season this year. While people wait anxiously for sports to return, there is hope that sports leagues like the MLB will return in the near future.
