All American is Back Tonight!

By: Nandana R, Staff Writer During quarantine, watching TV became a big part of our everyday lives. A few shows on Netflix were discovered and rediscovered by many, for example: Tiger King, Outer Banks, and, my personal favorite, All American.

All American season four will be coming out episode by episode starting tonight! This series delves deep into political and racial issues surrounding the black community in Beverly Hills, California. This series follows high school junior Spencer James and his journey as a football player. The story starts with Spencer getting recruited by an old friend of his mothers and managing to escape the endless cycle of gangs and poverty in his hometown of Crenshaw. He ends up moving to rich, opportunity filled Beverly Hills to play football at Beverly High. As the story continues mysteries are uncovered and new characters introduced to form a well rounded and thoroughly captivating plot.

By the third season Spencer is a senior and has left Beverly High to support his hometown and attend South Crenshaw once again. The season ended in suspense with great tension, as well as several shootings. The most devastating of these shootings was undoubtedly the shooting of Spencer’s best friend Coop, who had, over the course of the show's three seasons, become a fan favorite, as well as a strong and well-developed character. While this was a shock to many viewers, it is understandable why the writers of the show felt this was necessary to the script. Coop was an interesting character, however, she often made bad choices, such as getting involved in gang activity. This got her in a lot of trouble, and more often than not it was Spencer who pulled her out of this trouble. A lot of resentment ensued between the two because of this, which was hinted at throughout the series, but most prominently in the third season when the two stopped talking. Overall, though Coop is an important character, it seems as though will follow a different path then the rest of the main characters. While it is not yet confirmed that Coop’s story is coming to an end, it is widely believed, and overall, will make for a very gripping next season.
